Double Action Roulette

A relative newcomer to the world of roulette, Double Action roulette is an unusual take on the classic table game found in casinos and online casinos all over the world. However, this new incarnation featuring two independently moving rings brings a new twist that has been in play for about six years and has a substantial following of players that love this extra challenge.

Double Action Roulette review

In this Double Action roulette review, we will talk you through the new playing set up and explain some of the available bets. You will find the game available as both an American (double zero) base or European (single zero) base, but the wheel and playing mat are entirely different from their founding counterparts.

The Double Action Wheel

At first glance, the wheel might strike you as being a standard roulette wheel however a second proper look reveals that there is not one but two rings. Still following the conventional pattern of alternating red and black 36 sections, with either one or two green zero spaces, you will find two opposed wheels.

Green does not always line up to green, and in fact, there is no correlation of numbers at all it is all a bit random. This basically means that each of the 37 or 38 slots has two values.

On the inner ring you could find the single green zero opposite black 26, or find red 19 pairing with red 28, but only for a moment as the rings move independently of each other giving a vast combination of possibilities.

The Double Action Betting Mat

With two wheels in action, you might have expected the betting mat to look a little removed from what you have been used to. Split basically into two the numbers are duplicated on the left and right with each set of 36 numbers being arranged in a perfect square, with both vertical and diagonal lines of six, not the normal lines of three.

Around these two squares, each claiming its respective zero(s) you will find the rest of the bets familiar to a roulette table. This layout does take some getting used to so spend some time familiarising yourself with the new betting mat.

The Game

In much the same way as normal the wheel spin and the inner rings have an independent movement. The fact that there are two rings does change some of the bets and the odds that come with them, so you will need to relearn them for this version of the roulette table game.

What is Double Action Roulette

So what is Double Action roulette betting all about? Well, it could be argued that it is somewhat complicated, so let’s have a look at some of the basics. A winning bet can be placed on just the outcome of the inner ring, just the outcome of the outer ring or a combination of both.

With each wheel having its own clearly designated section on the betting mat, placing your chips on number 8 for the inner wheel does not mean you then win if the ball comes to rest on number 8 on the outer wheel.

Single Ring Bets

With that said, the odds have changed somewhat, and are potentially a little easier to understand. If you want to place a standard ‘inside’ style bet on either of the rings, you can do so as follows.

Single number -  Payout 35 to 1
Two numbers -  Payout 17 to 1
Four numbers -  Payout 8 to 1
Six numbers - Payout 5 to 1
Twelve numbers -  Payout 2 to 1

On the American style double zero wheel only
Eight numbers (0,00,1,2,3,4,5,6) Payout 3 to 1

On the European style single zero wheel only
Seven numbers (0,1,2,3,4,5,6) Payout 4 to 1

Remember these are single ring bets and your wager must be placed on either the inner or outer section on the betting mat.

Double Ring Bets

These are called ‘Parlay’ bets, and this means that both wheels must win. This is where you will find bets that look familiar as ‘outside’ bets in standard roulette games. So calling two single numbers correctly, for both the inner and outer ring is possibly the biggest, if most likely to succeed bet, seen on a roulette table.

Correctly calling both numbers on their right betting mat sections nets you a whopping payout of 1200 to 1.

The other bets that can be placed are

Two red, black, odd, even, 1 to 18, 19 to 36. Payout 3 to 1 (These replace the classic coin toss or 50/50 bets found in standard roulette)

First, second, or third dozen. Pays 8 to 1

On the American style double zero wheel only
Eight numbers (0,00,1,2,3,4,5,6) Payout 18 to 1

On the European style single zero wheel only
Seven numbers (0,1,2,3,4,5,6) Payout 25 to 1

House Advantage

While we usually advise that outside style bets are more manageable for a beginner at the roulette wheel, in Double Action roulette the house actually has more of an advantage here.

Again the house advantage is always more significant when using a double zero wheel, so it is clear to see that winning big at Double Action roulette, is a whole different ball game, quite literally, when compared to the traditional variants of the game.

There are no outside style bets available if you are betting on just one ring, these only come into play for parlay bets, so that is worth noting.

Double Action Roulette Casinos

Being such an exciting version of roulette, you will find that Double Action roulette casinos are easy to find online. The game is different, and that always attracts a good crowd, so more of the big named casinos are starting to add this version of the favourite table game to their lists.

It can be played by live dealers or in virtual wheel formats, with the former being massively popular thanks to the immersive nature of having the live stream and the presence of the smartly dress, real croupier.
